Foreigners visiting Russia need a visa. In order to get a visa, you have to obtain an invitation from a Russian citizen or company and submit it to the Russian embassy or consulate in your country. There are several types of Russian visas: Tourist visa, Business visa, Private visa and Transit visa.

 

Tourist visa

To obtain a tourist visa, you need to have a tourist invitation. The tourist invitation comprises a tourist voucher and a tourist reservation confirmation, sometimes these two documents can be united in one. Most consulates accept copies of the tourist invitation. So you can receive it by fax or e-mail (scanned copy) and bring it to the consulate.

When filling in the visa application form after you've received your invitation be certain to ensure that the application the same data as the invitation: the name of the inviting travel agency, the purpose of the trip, the visa dates, the cities you will visit.

Besides the above you need to submit to the Embassy the following documents:

  1. Original passport which must be valid at least 6 months after intended departure date from Russia
  2. Two copies of Russian visa application from, completed and signed
  3. Other documents required by your local Russian Embassy or consulate.

Russian Tourists visa is valid for less then 30 days.

All foreigners coming to Russia should have their Russian visa registered within 72 hours of arrival, excluding holidays and weekends. Before the 72 hour limit your tickets to Moscow are the only document, which give confirmation of your length of stay. So you can stay in Moscow up to 3 days without registration excluding weekend and holidays. Your visa registration can be registered by you or by our partner in the hotel you are staying.  

Transit Visa
This type of visa is usually given for a maximum of 72 hours if you're crossing the country or need to change at airports. The requirement and the prices depend on the country you're in, so the best thing to do is to contact the Russian consulate beforehand and they'll explain everything.

Russian Busuness Visa
This type of visa is supposed to be issued for those who come to Russia on business purposes. But because this type of visa allows longer stays and multiple entries, it is also used by ordinary travelers, who need more flexibility.

 

Private Visa
This type of visa is given to the foreigners coming to Russia for to visit friends or relatives. It can be valid for up to 3 months and is single entry only. It is the most complicated kind of visa as you can wait for the invitation for the period up to 45 days.
