MOSCOW Night at the museum
Moscow museums are celebrating Museum day and are opening their doors to the visitors mostly free of charge on May, 14 between 6pm and midnight.
The official museum day is May, 18, but Moscow authorities decided to switch the local version to the weekend in the hope of attracting more people through the doors.
Half a million people are expected to try a taste of Moscow culture by night.
Getting around
Forty specialised buses will connect different museums participating in the event, said head of Moscow’s culture department Sergei Khudyakov.
One of the routes will connect museums within the Garden Ring, the second – museums in the west and south west of Moscow, and the third will run between palaces on the edge of the city, RIA Novosti reported.
The buses will run with 10-20 minute intervals.

Some venues are doing more than just extending their opening hours for one day.
Proviantskiye Sklady on Zubovsky Bulvar promises a theatrical performance to entertain guests.
Tsaritsyno museum, pictured, will host 16 working exhibitions and have a concert on Dvortsovaya Ploshchad by the Kremlin chamber orchestra, Alexander Buynov and Pyatnitsky choir.
Pokrovsky Sobor will hold workshops for children until 11 pm “How they painted in ancient times” and a competition of children’s paintings.
Moscow’s biggest museums, the Tretyakov gallery and the State Historical museum are also taking part in the event.
The Tretyakov will let visitors in for free both to the Lavrushinsky pereulok and Krymsky Val buildings.
History museum will only offer 50 per cent discounts, but will entertain guests with music themed according to the exhibitions. The museum hall will host live show.
Kropotkinskaya metro station will hold a chamber concert marking the metro’s 76th anniversary, Interfax reported.
The concert starts on May, 15th at 2am. Five hundred lucky guests who won tickets in a draw will be able to listen to classical music at the train platform, 200 more than last year.
However, large crowds are expected, so the organisers warn of long queues and advise coming up with alternative destinations in case their first choice is fully booked.
The first Night at the Museum in Moscow was in 2007 when 600,000 guests visited more than 100 museums.
